Categories of Special Needs
The Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) lists 13 distinct disability categories in which an individual is entitled to certain protections and services:

- hearing impairment
- intellectual disability
- multiple disabilities
- orthopedic impairment
- other health impairment
- specific learning disability
- speech or language impairment
- traumatic brain injury
- visual impairment (including blindness)
